The former industrial site of the Hlubina Mine in Vítkovice

The Hlubina area offers the premises of Brick House, Compress Hall and other Dolní Vítkovice, which form the former industrial complex of the Hlubina mine, coking plants and blast furnaces of the Vitkovice Ironworks. The area is a unique industrial monument and an unmistakable symbol of Ostrava and the entire Moravian-Silesian region. For nearly 150 years, hundreds and thousands of miners were mined in Hlubina by the best-quality Ostrava coal. Today, Hlubina is a cultural and educational district and newly renovated buildings are now ready to welcome not only cultural and educational events, but also conferences, workshops or discussions. The last coal-fired carriage was launched on June 30, 1992, and its pits were covered in 1995-1996. In the period after the end of the operation, the multi-hectare area fell more or less to the public, but gradually began to recover the most valuable buildings, small tenants began to come and cultural events to take place. The most important of these is the Colors of Ostrava festival since 2012. In recent years, the Lower Vítkovice region has been partnering for its systematic return to the Ostrava map.
